02.01.2023:  Are you teaching this summer? Canvas will be the UH learning management system starting summer 2023. Please prepare your courses for migration. Below are some resources to get you started:

09.13.2022:  When meeting online or sharing a video file with others, think about adding a caption or transcript so that your audience (e.g., people with disabilities) are able to access content from a video by alternate formats which, in learning environments, adds to a resource’s accessibility requirement. These tutorials show how to do that:

08.26.2022:  When it comes to closed captions, Zoom offers a choice between using Auto-Transcriptions (Closed Captions) or assigning a Zoom meeting participant or a 3rd party to manually type them. The following tutorials provide additional information:
Written Document: ZOOM Close Caption and Live Transcriptions Options | Video: Zoom Closed Captioning – Built in and Free | Zoom Tutorial

05.19.2022: Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) takes place every year on the third Thursday of May and is all about getting people thinking and talking about making the web accessible for those with different disabilities. We invite you to learn more about  Electronic and Information Resources Accessibility and review some ways to make your content more accessible.

05.10.2022: The "Insights" tab in Microsoft Teams provides an aggregate digital activity report which tells you how active your students were in Teams within a given time frame. First, Click the Insights tab in your class Team, then Export the data to Excel. Visit the Digital activity data in Insights website for more information.

05.09.2022: If you need to submit course merge requests or separations, use the Course Request System as shown in step 5B of the How to Request a Blackboard/Teams Course tutorial or contact the UH Blackboard support team at blackboard@uh.edu. Noticed that course merge requests should be complete before students get loaded into Blackboard.

05.04.2022: For courses that seek to develop students' abilities in oral presentation skills, you can use the Microsoft Speaker Coach add-in that helps students prepare in private to give more effective presentations. Speaker Coach evaluates the student's pacing, pitch, filler words, etc. After each rehearsal, students get an autogenerated feedback report that includes statistics and suggestions for improvements.

04.25.2022: You could set up Office hours appointments using the Microsoft Bookings application. For more information read Instructions on how to set up appointment slots using Bookings. Note: To attach an MS Teams appointment to a booking, please remember to enable the "add online meeting option" when you are creating your appointment slots.

03.08.2022: If you are looking for a scheduler alternative, consider the MS FindTime application– available for free and as part of our UH Microsoft Outlook. For more read  What application I can use to come to a consensus on a Meeting Time?.

02.18.2022: If you are holding a test at the CASA testing center and need to give students access to a calculator during the assessment, you can visit the following article to learn how to enable a calculator for the exam in the LockDown Browser dashboard.

11.08.2021: There are many ways to assess students' mastery of material besides traditional homework assignments. The following articles list some of these alternatives: Students Suggested Homework Alternatives, Alternatives to Traditional Exams and Papers, and Alternatives to proctored exams
