Canvas is the exclusive LMS (Learning Management System) for the UH main campus.
To protect UH email systems and prevent spam, outgoing email is limited to 500 total recipients per rolling one‑hour period (internal and external combined).
Sending multiple large emails—such as an initial message followed by a correction—within the same hour may exceed this limit and temporarily block message delivery. Mailing lists and aliases may also count recipients more than once.
Recommendations
Use Canvas Inbox or Announcements for course‑related communication
Avoid sending multiple high‑recipient emails within one hour
Allow time between large messages
Faculty and staff who need to email more than 500 recipients should contact security@uh.edu for guidance or to request an exception.
