Request Canvas developmental (DEV) shells If you would like to create a course demo shell (sometimes also called a "sandbox" course) to develop and design courses and content to be later copied over to a live semester course shell. Development shells are not strictly necessary but allow instructors to learn the system. Whether your development shell has been created fresh or with imported Blackboard course content, visit the Building Content from Scratch and Integrating Automatically Imported Content for step-by-step instructions for configuring your course. Work completed in Canvas DEV shells may be copied into a Canvas shell for an academic semester with student enrollment.
If you wish to begin working with your automatically imported content from Blackboard, you can use the Course Request System (CRS) to request Summer courses on Canvas. Fall courses can be requested this way from April 2023 onwards. Follow the Integrating Automatically Imported Content guide to start working with your course content in Canvas.
You can also manually import Blackboard content that you've already backed up. Check out our guide on Manually integrating Blackboard content for more information.
It is also possible for you to create a free Canvas account at Instructure.com if you wish to test Canvas outside of UH (or while your UH account is being created).
