Eating Disorder or Disordered Eating
These two terms are often used when we talk about habits surrounding food. They can be defined as
Eating Disorders are characterised by persistent disturbance of eating or eating related behaviour, which leads to altered intake or absorption of food and causes significant impairment to health and psychological functioning.
Disordered Eating could be defined as 'a problem with eating' or eating difficulty. This is not a diagnosable condition. Symptoms occur less frequently and are less intense. There are o physical concerns for the person.
Eating disorders develop when disordered eating habits negatively impact physical health and emotional wellbeing and meet the criteria for diagnosis.
As a school we work closely with MHST (The Northamptonshire Mental Health Support Team). If you are concerned about your daughter we are able to refer to this service to offer specialist support.
