Past Simple Tense
Минало просто време
Минало просто време Past Simple Tense се употребява, за да изрази завършени еднократни действия в миналото, или последователни действия, приключили в точно определен момент, който е известен. Използва се с наречия за време като: вчера yesterday, преди два дни two days ago, преди месец a month ago, миналата година last year, през май in May, през 1997 in 1997, снощи last night.
Примери:
She visited us every summer.
(регулярно действие в миналото)
When they got home, they went to bed.
(последователни действия в миналото)
They went to Spain in May.
(определен момент в миналото)
Образуване
I worked. I didn’t work.
Did I work? Didn’t I work?
Внимание!
При неправилните глаголи изпозлваме втората форма, за да образуваме минало време, но само в положителните, разказни изречения.

She went to school yesterday at 8 o’clock.
She didn’t go to school.

Внимание!
Глаголът "съм" - to be е неправилен глагол. Формите му са: be-was/were-been. За да образуваме минало време, използваме втората форма. Отрицателните и въпросителните изречения се образуват по същия начин, както в сегашно време.
Примери:
I was in Paris. I wasn’t in Paris.
Аз бях в Париж. Не бях в Париж.
You were in Paris. You weren’t in Paris. Were you in Paris?
Ти беше в Париж. Ти не беше в Париж. Ти беше ли в Париж?
He was in Paris. He wasn’t in Paris. Was he in Paris?
Той беше в Париж. Той не беше в Париж. Той беше ли в Париж?

Past Continuous Tense
Минало продължително време
Минало продължително време Past Continuous Tense се употребява, за да изрази действие, протичащо през определен (не много дълъг) период в миналото. То показва действие, протичащо в определен момент в миналото, което е прекъснато от еднократно друго действие (минало просто време, със съюза when). Употребява се също и да изрази две или повече едновременно протичащи действия в миналото (със съюза while).
Употребява се с обстоятелствени фрази, като: вчера цял ден all day yesterday, два часа for two hours, по това време миналата година this time last year, в 9 часа снощи at 9 o’clock last night, от 4 до 6 вчера from 4 to 6 yesterday
Примери
She was wearing a red dress.
(описание на ситуация в миналото)
At 9 o’clock we were having breakfast.
(действие, протичащо в точно определен момент в миналото)
It was raining when I got up.
(еднократно действие, случило се по средата на друго, продължително действие)
I was writing my report while she was preparing the dinner. (едновременно протичащи действия в миналото)
I was reading all day yesterday.
(действие, протичащо в определен период в миналото)

Past Continuous показва, че действието е продължавало в определен период или в даден момент в миналото.
Past Simple показва еднократни действия в миналото или поредица от действия.
