Comparative and superlative forms of the adjectives
Сравнителна и превъзходна степен на прилагателните
Прилагателните в английския се степенуват по два начина:
1. Всички едносрични и двусрични прилагателни, които окончават на –y, -el, -le, -ow, се степенуват с помощта на наставките -er за сравнителна и -est за превъзходна степен.
small – smaller – the smallest
fast – faster – the fastest
easy – easier – the easiest
cruel – crueler – the cruelest
simple – simpler – the simplest
clever – cleverer – the cleverest
shallow – shallower – the shallowest
2. Останалите двусрични и всички многосрични прилагателни, както и наречията, се степенуват с помощта на наречията more и most, съответно за сравнителна и превъзходна степен.
interesting – more interesting – the most interesting
intelligent – more intelligent – the most intelligent
beautiful – more beautiful – the most beautiful
3. Изключения.
good – better – the best
bad – worse – the worst
little – less – the least
many/much – more – the most
4. Когато два предмета или две лица притежават едно и също качество в различна степен и трябва да ги сравним, употребяваме съюза than ‘от, отколкото’.
This dress is smaller than that one. – Тази рокля е по-малка от онази.
The tie is more expensive than the shirt. – Вратовръзката е по-скъпа от ризата.
These sunglasses are better than my old ones. – Тези слънчеви очила са по-добри от старите ми.
Jeans are worse than shorts in hot weather. – Дънките са по-лош вариант от шортите в горещо време.

ADVERBS
Наречия
Наречията са думи, които поясняват кога, къде, защо или при какви условия нещо се случва, или се е случило. Наречията за начин (как?) се образуват като след прилагателното поставим окончание –ly и се поставят след глагола, т.е. поясняват глагола. Но това, че окончанието е -ly не винаги е гаранция, че думата е наречие. Думите lovely, lonely, friendly, например, са прилагателни.
That lovely woman lives in a friendly neighborhood. – Тази чудесна жена живее в дружелюбен квартал.
She is a beautiful + girl. (какво?) She sings + beautifully. (как?)
He is slow. – Той е бавен. He speaks slowly. – Той говори бавно.
Изключения!
Следните думи имат една и съща форма за прилагателно и наречие:
fast (бързо), early (рано), long (дълго), far (далече), little (малко), much (много), straight (направо), low (ниско), hard (усилено)
Внимание!
hard – hard (усилен/усилено); (hardly - едва)
near-near; (nearly - почти)
late – late (късен/късно); (lately – напоследък)
fair-fair (честен/честно)(fairly - сравнително)
short-short (къс/късо) (shortly - скоро)
Формата за наречие на прилагателното ‘good’ е ‘well’ (добре).
Внимание!
След глаголите за възприятие се поствя прилагателно, а не наречие.
smell; taste; see; hear; feel; look (изглежда), sound – GOOD/BAD well/badly

Степенуване на наречията и видове наречия
Подобно на прилагателните и наречията могат да имат сравнителна и превъзходна степен.
Walk faster if you want to keep up with me. – Върви по-бързо, ако искаш да си в крак с мен.
The student who reads fastest will finish first. – Ученикът, който чете най-бързо ще свърши първи.
Често използваме more и most, less и least, за да степенуваме наречията.
With sneakers on, she can move more quickly among the patients. – Когато е с маратонки, тя може да се придвижва между пациентите по-бързо.
She worked less confidently after her accident. – Тя работеше по-неуверено след катастрофата.
Когато искаме да кажем, че два обекта притежават дадено качество в еднаква степен, или че те са еднакви по определен признак – употребяваме конструкцията as…..as, както с прилагателни, така и с наречия.
He can't run as fast as his sister. – Той тича толкова бързо, колкото сестра си. (наречие)
Peter is as tall as George is. – Питър е висок колкото Джордж. (прилагателно)
