Unit 10: Design Challenge

IED Design Challenge:

Unit 10 this year is a summative project, a term paper that showcases all the skills, knowledge, and methods learned in the IED course.

It will also provide formative assessment to gauge student achievement

Document in detail or interpret documentation of the application of a design process used to solve a problem or create a new product or process.
Develop models to represent design alternatives and generate data to inform decision-making, test alternatives, and demonstrate solutions.
Make judgments and decisions based on evidence.

Engineering Tools and Technology

Using a variety of measuring devices, measure and report quantities accurately and to a precision appropriate for the purpose.
Interpret and analyze data for a single count or measurement variable.

Technical Sketching and Drawing

Create technical drawings to fully detail an object or part.
Properly dimension technical drawings of simple objects or parts according to a set of dimensioning standards and accepted practices.

One of my student's animation from his OnShape automata model:

1. The "character" parts (that will be moving or stationary) assembled on top of the automata box

2. The CAM profile - can be just the cam alone, in two screen captures during 3D and 2D

At least one of the screen captures should be showing the dimensions

3. The assembled Automata device (Due Tuesday June 2 )with:

a. "Character" parts arranged on top of box

b. Assembled box from five panels

c. Axle passing through the center of the two side panels

d. Cam

e. Follower - aligned above the cam, pushing the moving "character" part above the box
