My objective, as a teacher, is to develop creative problem-solving abilities in students.
(and to fuse the student's creativity with technological innovation)
The important thing is not how much information you know,
but HOW you can CREATIVELY solve problems
USING what you know.
Creative problem-solving is a valuable life skill, not just in the workplace.
Flexibility is very important in today's world of constant change.
The value in our creative-driven classes is that they prepare the students for the ever-changing business climate and develop visual communication skills, which are becoming more and more important in todays visual world of our devices.
Yes - artists are the best equipped to deal with the ever-changing business world.
Artists know the PROCESS of how to approach a problem, deal with the problems that are NOT yet defined, and apply the design process in finding alternative solutions.
The students now are the "Generation of Flux" – where adaptability and flexibility are the most important attribute for success.
The Goal: Learn how to find and define the problem and create alternative solutions.
So, how is this developed in the classroom?
1. Exercise creativity - not be afraid of mistakes - be willing to fail - be fearless to take risks in innovation
2. Collaboration - communication skills that are visual as well as written
3. Gain awareness of what you love - what makes you happy
4. Find avenues for students to be recognized - to be competitive in teams - to reward creative innovation.
I want to be a part of reaching goals stated by President Obama: To nurture creativity and innovation in our students, helping our future generation to become creative problem-solvers, and to reclaim our position in the world as the country of freedom and innovation.
