I'm creating a place to review some simple design techniques to make your image more comfortable, less awkward in either proportion, or focal point, or balance of elements.
These are three excellent examples students have submitted for the PSA project (the first submitted) with the simple edits that made them perfect for our 11x17 poster:

The only thing it needed was just a little vertical stretching and then adding space above and below, which didn't change the message or design at all. However, a little more space does make the design have a more comfortable viewing on the right, when the message isn't feeling so crowded:
