Speech Sounds Lesson

Please watch the following read aloud by clicking on the you tube link below. I wanted the kids to be able to see my face and listen to a story this week to practie their speech sounds. They can listen along and practice the words/sentences with me!

Here are words that you can practice from the story with these specific sounds. Have your child practice each set of words 5x each. Then, have them choose 5 words from their list and use the words in a sentence.

*Make sure that the kids use an appropriate rate of speech and produce each sound of the words so that they are understandable.

Expressive & Receptive Language Lesson-Level 1

Please have your child click on the you tube link below to listen to a story read aloud by me. It is called "Pete the Cat and his Magic Sunglasses." While your child listens to the story, have them follow along and attempt to answer the yes/no quesitons, wh-questions, and have them use their "talkers" to type in complete sentences using the carrier phrase "I see a ________."

After they listen to the story, have them complete the following language tasks on boom learning with your help. You can either skip the read aloud part (since they listented to me read it OR they can re-watch it.

Description Task:

Have your child describe the following vocabulary words from the story by asking them the following questions:

Toad: What type of thing is a toad? (If they need choices, you can give them 2 choices. What an a toad do? (does it fly or leap?) What color is it?

Squirrel: What type of thing is a squirrel? What does a squirrel do? (does it eat nuts or eat bananas?) What color is it?

Turtle: What type of thing is a turtle? What does a turtle do? What color is it?

Alligator: What type of thing is an alligator? What does an alligator do? What color is it?

Owl: What type of thing is a bird? What does it do? What color is it?

Stuttering Lesson

Please see your email for a packet that was sent directly to you to work on "Catching the Stutter" today. Read through pages 7-8 with your child. Practice "catching the stutter" when reading page 8 by having your child close their hand tight when they find themselves stuttering.

Description/Vocabulary

Have your child look to the left to complete the description activity from the story read aloud:

Green Group: What group does it belong to?

Blue Do: What does it do, what can you use if for?

What does it look like: What color, shape, size?

What is it made of: What is it made out of (glass, plastic, etc.?)

Pink Parts: What are the different parts?

White Where: Where can you find it?

Orange: What else do I know about it?


Answer the above questions about the following words from the story:

EXAMPLE: (Pete the Cat: He is a type of cat/animal, he puts on sunglasses in the story and visits his friends, he is blue with big yellow eyes, he is made up of blue fur, he has big yellow eyes, blue fur, 4 legs, whiskers, etc., you can find him outside visiting his friends).

Compare/Contrast

After listening to "Pete the Cat and His Magic Sunglasses", compare and contrast the following words (Talk about 1 reason they are "alike" and 1 reason they are "different."

  4. Motorcycle and Skateboard

Grammar/Sentence Formation

Read the following sentences below and fix the errors to make the sentence make sense.


  1. Him wore magic sunglasses.

  2. Pete the cat weared sunglasses in the story.

  3. Pete rided his skateboard outside.

  4. Him sunglasses fell and broke.

  5. Pete falled down off of his skateboard.

Sequencing Events/Answering Comprehension Questions

First, sequence the main events that happen in the story using complete sentences and specific vocabulary. (Recall 5 "friends" that Pete the Cat meets along the way).

  1. Who did Pete the Cat see first?

  2. Who was the "wise" animal in the story?

  3. What did Pete the Cat think was "magic" in the story?

  4. Where did the story take place?

  5. When did the story take place?

  6. What animal did Pete the Cat see after the squirrel?

  7. What animal did Pete the Cat see before he saw the alligator?

  8. Were the sunglasses actually magic? Why or why not?

On Tuesday, your child was provided a video read aloud from me working and targeting on specific sounds. Today, your child can re-watch the video from Tuesday and continue to practice the target words/phrases below again.

Here are words that you can practice from the story with these specific sounds. Have your child practice their set of target words 10x each to reach 100 trials!! You can do it! Then, have them choose 5 words from their list and use the words in a sentence.

Social Skills Lesson

Today's social skills lesson is on "compromising." This is such a hard area for children at this time, but a great skill to have. I always tell the kids that it is important to not only think about what we want to do and like to do, but what our friends like to do as well. Please have your child watch the video to the left and discuss the following questions:

  1. What is a compromise?

  2. Why is it important to compromise?

  3. Why was Kate's behavior unexpected in the video?

  4. How did Kate's behavior make Sarah feel?

  5. Discuss a time where you had to compromise with a friend?
