1 hanging planter
3 sketches: sketches due the day before you begin the build KNOW what your want to make before you start making.
Building Method: Coil (Remember, either the inside or the outside needs to be seamless/smoothened for structural strength.)
Clay budget: 3-4 pounds
You MUST have a hanging method: notch cut or rope hanging.
3/8” wall thickness or less.
A minimum of 8 inches in eight and 5 inch opening
Surface Decoration: None. By now, you have many skills on how to make clay do what you want it to do, so your focus here will be on your creative decisions with the form: the form IS the creative expression, not the decoration you put on it.
Techniques to consider: stretch and compress, paddling, Kurinuki carving, scratch-n-scrape. Will your form be organic, geometric, curvy rimmed, symmetrical, asymmetrical?
Unit Length: 3 weeks
Suggestions:
Build it upside down: start like you would for a coil pot but do not include a base. Step 1 is coil 1–then go upwards.
You MAY want to consider putting a drainage hole at the bottom; plants DO NOT like to sit in stagnant water, BUT drainage holes also allow water to leave which may cause issue for indoor usage. Your choice.
