Project 1: Pinch Pot Requirements
Sketchbook Requirements: Minimum 3 pages of notes (8 ½” x 11”) Sketchbook or double that for smaller sketchbooks. Due at the end of the unit.
You will make 3 different Pinch Pots using a different creative techniques for each.
Creative Technique Options:
Stretch and Compress It
Imprint It: wet or leatherhard
Imprint It and then Stretch It
Add to It/Sprig It: Score and Slip all Additive pieces
Carve It: Leather Hard clay only
Paddle It: Begin with a thick-walled piece (See demo)
Kurinuki It: Japanese Carving Method (See demo)
Each must have one of the following feet:
Add a Foot: Carved-in Foot, Coil Foot, Slab Foot, Pinched Bowl Foot, Pushed-Out Foot, Pushed-in Foot, Nodule/Pod Feet. (Make sure your additive feet are in the same stage of dryness as your form).
Other Requirements
Work is neat, clean, and refined
Max 1lb of clay per form; minimum ½ pound per form
Minimally visible pinch marks
Cracks have been compressed or removed
Work shows the application of lessons and skills taught during the demos
No wobble of form due to uneven foot
No part of your pot can be thicker than 3/8”
Keep walls consistent thickness (avoid thick and thin areas by completing the Flattening Pinch
Must be at least 3” tall
Each pot must have an additive foot
Must have your name and period on bottom
Non-representational (does not resemble an animal, emoji, flowers, heart, etc)
Your vessel must hold liquid
Rounded and smooth rim (no cracks or unevenness in rim.
No handles
Do not carve pot from a solid block of clay
Length of Unit: 2 Weeks
