Requirements:
3 Pages of Notes from the demonstrations (8 1/2"x 11" or 4 + pages with smaller sketchbooks.)
3 Sketches of what you would like to make (draw them roughly "to scale" or roughly 8 inch sketches) MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE YOU BEGIN
In this unit you will make 1 coil form. The requirements are listed below.
5-7 lbs of clay (think 5-7 lemons-worth of clay)
Focus on form and shape: your vessel must be either traditional or unique in form
3/8”maximum thickness on all sides
Must be at least 8” tall (Use the bottom of your locker instead of the top)
Base must be minimum 3" in diameter. NO ADDITIVE FOOT!
Keep walls consistent thickness.
Either the inner or outer side must be smoothened
No wobble of form due to uneven base
Non-representational (does not resemble an animal, emoji, flowers, heart, etc)
No slumped walls due to poor timing/lack of awareness of stages of clay
Either the inner or outer side must be smoothened
Non-representational (does not resemble an animal, emoji, flowers, heart, etc)
Your vessel must “hold volume” (ie. liquid, cotton balls, pencils, etc)
Your work must be clean and refined
Your work must reflect creative design decisions with the form
No telescoping clay to meet your height requirement
Suggestions:
"Stretch and compress" the clay to create movement and interest in the form
Create spirals, twists, braids, spheres, as part of the design.
Do reductive work (carving)
Do additive work (Make things and add them to the form)
Play with repetition, imprints, and texture
Try out your fingers and tools--anything you think will create an interesting result.
