Task 1- Create an NJS Word Cloud

We would like you to create a word cloud including at least 10 words that you think sum up NJS.

You can either complete this task on paper using coloured crayons or online by clicking this link. Think carefully about the words that you select and be creative with colour, the shape of your cloud and the style of font. Please follow the step by step guidance below on how to create your word cloud online. If you are drawing your word cloud, have a look on Google images for some examples (search hand drawn word clouds).

We will then select some of your word clouds and these will be included on the front cover of our booklet 'What makes NJS great?'

Task 2- Create a drawing of NJS

We would like you to create a detailed drawing of NJS using one of the photographs provided. You may decide to do this using sketching pencil or colour using pencil crayons, paint or pastels. The second photograph is slightly more difficult for those of you wanting a challenge as it requires a greater understanding of perspective.

Complete a first draft before doing this piece of art work in best and use your observational skills to ensure you copy the image accurately.

Task 3- Write a diary entry of your favourite day/experience at NJS

We would like to hear about your best experience or day during your time at our school written as a diary extract.

Think back to all the exciting experiences you've had whilst you've been here. Your diary could be about a school trip, residential visit, school show, sports tournament or Christmas event. Take a look at the example opposite for an idea of what your diary could be like.

Remember to include lots of interesting vocabulary to engage the reader and the features of a diary:

  • Informal and chatty style

  • First person

  • Past tense

  • Chronological order

  • Feelings and emotions

  • Rhetorical questions

Task 4- Redesign NJS Core Values Poster

The core values of our school include 6 key words that are all at the very heart of what is important to us all at Norton Junior School: Aspiration, Resilience, Respect, Independence, Voice and Enterprise.

We would like you to redesign the core values poster that can be found all around school. The best designs will be included in our 'What makes NJS great?' booklet.

Your poster must include the six words (spelt correctly) but how you present it is up to you. Try to be creative with your design and capture what NJS is all about.

Task 5- What NJS means to me

This task is an opportunity to really reflect on your time at NJS and demonstrate what the school and the people in it mean to you. We hope that these personal reflections, that will be included in the booklet, will help new starters to our school who may be feeling worried or anxious about joining us in September. How you present this is up to you. It may simply be a short written text, a piece of artwork or a mixture of text and images. Speak from the heart and be creative!
