NIHR Diversity Data report

The Diversity Data report for 2022/23 is now available for NIHR colleagues to view. The NIHR Diversity Data Project currently reports on the diversity of (the majority of) our applicants, co-applicants, award holders and committee members, as well as the NIHRCC and RDNCC workforce.

The NIHR Diversity Data reports provide evidence to help inform where priority action is needed in the NIHR Research Inclusion programme. For example, the reports identify under-represented groups across the NIHR People Framework, including NIHR committees and panels.

NIHR is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion in everything we do. To achieve this we need to identify and address areas of underrepresentation and bias in our system, through evidence-based approaches.

One of the most important and objective ways we can identify underrepresentation is by collecting and analysing diversity data. By establishing standardised approaches to the collection, analysis and reporting of our diversity data we are able to monitor the effectiveness of our Research Inclusion Strategy. This will allow us to set clear priorities for the future, whilst being transparent and accountable.

The NIHR Diversity Data reports are also a useful resource for teams completing Equality Impact Assessments (EIAs)  as it provides evidence of where interventions may be required to address under-representation of any particular groups. It is important to take the time to review the Methods section of the report to understand any data limitations, particularly in the context of the team function.
