Research Studies in the East Midlands

Health care practitioner survey to inform health service configuration for abortion provision

This work stream aimed to assess health care practitioners’ views on and perceived consequences of the decrimalisation and demedicalisation of abortion in Britain.

Evaluation of Virtual Patient Technology to teach NOAC counselling

The study aims to investigate the use and acceptance of a virtual patient (VP, a computer-animated patient) based educational training programme for pharmacists and pre-registration pharmacists (trainee pharmacists, university graduates).

Access to medicines study (Phases 3 + 4)

Patient/carer access to medicines at end-of-life (EoL) is critical for control of symptoms, including pain and distress and recent evidence confirms EoL medicines optimisation is a research priority for patients and carers.

New research e-learning for pharmacy professionals

Pharmacy e-learning poster (1).pdf

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) and the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), supported by the Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK (APTUK), have launched the first e-learning module in a series for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to develop their skills and knowledge in research.

A total of nine e-learning modules  to improve research awareness, knowledge and skills for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians with little or no experience of research or research opportunities.

The aim is to improve the capacity of pharmacy professionals to provide the evidence base to improve the practice of pharmacy and the health of the public.

RPS supports the recent NIHR/RCP position statement Making research everybody’s business which sets out recommendations for making research part of everyday practice for all clinicians.

Each module takes around 45 to 60 minutes to complete and they can be done as single episodes of learning, or as a full set. All you need to do is set up an account with NIHR to access the modules. To find out more information click the link.

Who are these e-Learning modules for?

This e-learning series is for pharmacists,  pharmacy technicians and Pharmacy Students interested in research. We want to build pharmacy professionals’ knowledge and skills in research, so they can help to provide the evidence base to improve the practice of pharmacy and the health of the public.

Developed for the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), our research e-learning programme will improve clinical research awareness, knowledge and skills for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians who are new to research and/or have minimal experience of research or research opportunities.
