Study Support Service

What is the Study Support Service (SSS)?

Every Local Clinical Research Network (LCRN) is required to provide a Study Support Service - the SSS is nationally defined and locally delivered.

The Study Support Service team provides support to researchers and can impact the success of a study in 3 key areas:

Plan

We provide personalised advice and guidance about what support is available to researchers, tailored to their specific study needs. Researchers can access this support even before they have secured funding. Engaging early will increase their support options.

Place

We identify study sites and highlight any challenges to the study delivery. We do this by gathering expressions of interest to take part in a  study from sites across England.   We undertake a study wide assessment to identify and highlight any challenges to study delivery, enabling a proactive approach to study set-up.

Perform

We streamline study set-up through our national network.  We share a study-wide action plan to ensure multiple sites open as quickly and efficiently as possible.  We allocate a performance review lead who works with researchers to proactively monitor the progress of the  study.

As part of our service, we provide advice on cost attribution of studies by applying AcoRD principles and completion of the Schedule of Events Cost Attribution Tool (SoECAT).
