This article will teach you everything you need to know to pass your Onshape certification test. This was written by a person who currently only has the associate certification. I will talk about the things I had to learn for this test, but I do not know what is extra on the professional test. I recommend at least 1-2 years of CADing on Onshape before attempting this test.
There are 2 options for the Onshape certification: The Onshape Associate and the Onshape Professional test. They are both 3-hour tests. Both links to each test are on the right.
The Onshape Associate consists of two sections: A modeling section and a multiple-choice knowledge-based section. The modeling section has 14 questions worth 66 points, and the knowledge-based section has 34 questions worth 34 points. The test costs $50, and you need to get a 75% to get your certificate.
The Onshape Professional test consists of two sections: A modeling section and a multiple-choice knowledge-based section. The modeling section has 10 questions worth 50 points, and the knowledge-based section has 50 questions worth 50 points. The test costs $100, and you need 70% to get your certificate. This test is also overall just harder.
I would do a practice exam without a timer to prepare for this test. If you get stuck on any of the modeling questions, please refer to sections 3-5 of this article. The second button on the right has the PDF for the practice test, and the third button has the answers on the last page of the PDF. I had around 2-3 years of Onshape CAD experience before taking this test, and below are the things that were different that I had to learn to pass. On the practice test, if there is a word you do not understand, just look it up so you know what it means on the actual exam.
All the questions in the modeling section relate to a technical drawing that looks like the ones on the right. Read each question carefully to understand correctly what you are supposed to change and add to the part. The question where some dimensions of the same part change between questions. There is no need to make variables; just manually change the dimensions. Make sure to use the project tool as well for parts with the same dimensions in the same part studio.
Learning how to use mass properly on Onshape is important for every question on the test. Follow the guide below to learn and understand how mass works on Onshape.
