This page gives an overview on who is FTC 12736, Electric Mayhem Green. As well as what is FTC as a program. This team is often referred to as the "Green team" by most people in the Electric Mayhem family. It also gives the team's history and some recent, well-known accomplishments.
FTC, or FIRST Tech Challenge, is a program that is a part of the greater FIRST program. FTC robots play on a two vs two match on a 12ft by 12ft field. Something that is very unique to FTC is that each team must submit a 15 Engineering notebook. In this notebook, teams often provide recent accomplishments, engineering processes, coding input, team dynamics, and things they learned throughout the process during build season, both robot and outreach-wise.
FTC Team Electric Mayhem Green 12736 was created in 2017 with their sister team, Electric Mayhem White 12737. Their first season was the 2018 game Relic Recovery. The team consists of 10-12 grade Nichols students through the school Engineering classes. In order to be in the class and on the green team, people have to have at least one year of prior FTC experience.
This year, Electric Mayhem Green is the varsity team between the two FTC teams at Nichols. This means that only the Green team is in the Advanced Engineering class offered by Nichols School. Students in this engineering class receive college credit through Suny Buffalo State. This team dedicates all of their time of building the robot to do during this class. Green team avoids meeting after school to make it easier to share lab space. Dedicating all the time needed to compete at competition in class rather than after school successfully, makes it so Green team and White team are completely separate teams.
This year one of the two most proud accomplishments that Green team as done is gaining the sponsorship from Rev Robotics. We were selected as one of the #TEAMREV FTC class for the 2024-2025 Into the Deep season. We we are one out of 36 FTC teams across the world that gets to be part of Team REV. Being part of Team Rev means that every month we are given a list of tasks and completing them gives us Rev points that we can use later in the season. In order to be a part of Team Rev, teams must go through a application proccess.
FTC Open Alliance or also known as FTC OA was made over the summer by two robotics students. This alliance was made with a goal similar to the FRC Open Alliance: to share its engineering story and process with a broader community. The FTC OA is a great way for rookies and season veterans to gain an understanding and observe what other teams are up to. This is also a great platform to see how different teams take on challenges and adapt to different elements of the game.
