Registering with FIRST

One of the first steps to joining an Electric Mayhem team, or any FIRST team for that matter, is registering yourself as a student on the official FIRST website, firstinspires.org. Initial registration is done at the start of your FIRST experience, but you will have to re-register for your team(s) at the beginning of each season.
This article will lead you through the steps of account creation, team registration, and parental approval.

The official FIRST website is where you can sign up to be on a team, to volunteer at an event, or to apply for college scholarships. Before doing this, you must sign up for an account, which will last you through your entire FIRST journey.
The registration link on the right will allow you to create an account.
Once you have pressed the button or clicked "Register" on the FIRSTinspires homepage, you will be presented with a short registration form.
The form will ask you for information such as your full name, date of birth, email, etc. Please fill these fields in accurately.
The form will also prompt you to create a password for your FIRSTinspires account. Make sure that this password is secure, and save it as you will require it to join your team or volunteer for events.
Once this form is complete, your FIRSTinspires account will have been created, and you can complete the other sections of this article through your student dashboard.
When you log into the FIRSTinspires website and click the "My Dashboard" link at the top right of the homepage (as shown on the right) you will be presented with a dashboard that looks like this:
Here, click the "Apply to a Team" button. Doing this will pull up a form which will allow you to select your team and apply. The steps of the form are detailed as follows. You may have to do these steps multiple times if you want to join more than one Electric Mayhem team.
This section of the form asks for information about your school. For Electric Mayhem Teams, enter this information (your graduation year and grade level should be your own)
This section of the form is where you select which team you will apply to. The image above shows an example of how to register for Electric Mayhem Green by selecting FTC and then entering team number 12736.
Once you have completed this form, a request will be sent to your team's mentor. After this request is accepted, you will officially become a part of said team for the season.
After you have been accepted onto the team, you have to have a parent give consent for you to be on that team. This will ensure that you are able to compete at FIRST events. In order to attain parental consent, your chosen parent or guardian must create their own FIRSTinspires account using the same steps detailed in Section 1. They will also be able to see their own dashboard after this is done. They will do their work in the section of the dashboard called "Parent/Guardian - Youth". It looks like this:
Once Your parent has a FIRSTinspires account, they will have access to their Dashboard. Under the Dashboard, there are a couple different options, including how to do youth registration. If you already have an account, they can simply sign you up and give consent for you to be on the team.
If you do not have an account yet, your parent has to go to the "Youth Profile" tab to claim you as their child. Once they do that, they can consent to you being on a team.
