Padlet is an app that allows you to create virtual bulletin boards. It is a digital canvas used to create beautiful, original, and creative projects that are easy to share and collaborate on. It is similar to making a bulletin on a piece of paper. However, it is much more convenient. You are given an empty page - a padlet - and can put whatever you want on the page. Whether it be a video, record an interview, take a picture, blog, write your own texts, upload documents, etc. You can make it your own by adding custom wallpapers and themes. It has multiple tools: lists, venn diagrams, discussion boards, greeting cards, portfolios, or a business plan. It is used by teachers, students, professionals, and all kinds of people from around the world! You are able to invite others to view and edit your very own padlets as well. Share your work across social platforms!

Step by Step guide for Educators:

Download the app in the app store and sign up creating a new account or by using your facebook or google logins.
You know have access to padlets. First, view a few examples and familiarize yourself with the app.
Click the "join" icon if you have friends/people that you would like to collaborate with.
Click the "Gallery" icon to view different padlets created by other users.
In order to make it your own, click on the three dot icon on the right side of our phone/ipad/etc. Click on "profile".
This is where you can edit your picture, information, and view your followers.
In this section you may also view "stats" by upgrading to jetpack service.
In the "settings" section, you can edit your basic info and password.
You may view "Developer" if you wish to create, read, update, or delete content from padlet. You can access the documentation through this section by creating an application.
In this section, you may also click "communication" in order to view updates or publish your padlets.
Lastly in this section, you can view the "billing" section if you would like to pay for upgrades and manage any other purchases.
You may also delete your account from the settings section.
At the bottom of the home page, you may view the recent padlets you've made, shared, or liked.
After clicking, "make a padlet" you will be given numerous options.
The first option is to choose a template or background theme for your padlet.
There are numerous choices for you to decide from. If we choose the first example, "Moodboard", you can easily collect your design inspirations.
You are given suggestions such as, "shades of summer" and can work from there.
The rest is up to you!

How many people can post at the same time? There is no limit.

How do I format my posts? The latest version allows for basic formatting. Select the words you want to enrich by highlighting and a toolboard will show up with the necessary actions.
How much does it cost? It is free to get started and access basic use. Upgrades vary.

Classroom Activities:

1. Grade: 4
Subject: Art/English
Create a digital storyboard.
The teacher will have the students use Padlet to create a digital story board.
The students must use pictures and text to create a story of their choosing for the teacher to review. They will have the option to collaborate it with the rest of the class in order to share their story. The stories can be fiction or can be non fiction and use actual photos of them growing up.

Assessment:

The students will be evaluated on their ability to create a story using the major components in a story. (theme, conclusion, setting, climax, etc.)
The students will be evaluated on clarity.
Students will be evaluated on their ability to write effectively.

Standard: W. 2. 3. Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequences.

2. Grade: 3

Subject: History
The students will create a digital timeline of Louisiana history.
Students will provide dates, pictures, and brief sentences explaining the major events in the timeline.

Assessment:

The students will be evaluated on their accuracy of the timeline events.
The students will be evaluated on clarity and ability to follow directions.

Standard: 3.1.1 Create timelines that identify important events in the history of Louisiana.

Pros:

It is easier to organize your work, rather than using loose leaf paper.
You are able to collaborate on projects without physically meeting up with your partner.
Teachers can instantly view the posts their students make available to them.
It is a fast and easy way for the teacher to interact with their students on certain assignments.
Parents can also access their child's work at all times and be up to date with what they are working on.

Cons:

As is the fear with any technology based work, the students lose out on the actual physical interaction with their classmates and teacher.
Parents can get over involved with certain projects without the teacher being able to monitor.
Students can see each others work that is shared which can potentially cause problems with parents or classmates.
