Covering and Counting Our Footprints
1st Graders counted large amounts as they investigated the size of their feet by covering an outline of their shoe with square tiles. Students recorded the total on a sticky note and added it to the class chart. During Math Meeting, we organized the data so it was easier to read and discussed what we noticed. The next day, we worked with larger numbers as we used pennies to cover our footprints. We discussed the differences between measuring using tiles and pennies during our Math Meeting.
