Cindy Kirchner

I am Cindy Kirchner. This is my 25th year of teaching in Nelson County Public Schools. Nelson County has been my home for most of my life.  My husband, John, and I have three married adult sons. We also have three beautiful grandchildren who keep us busy! I enjoy knitting and singing and hiking in my spare time. There have been several stops along my academic pathway.  It looks something like this:  Shenandoah Conservatory of Music, Bachelor of Music Education; Mary Baldwin College, Pre-6 Elementary Endorsement; Shenandoah University, Masters of Science in Teaching and Administration. I believe in being a lifelong learner!

As a  child, I was surrounded by reading. My much older sister gave me a set of encyclopedias for my first birthday. My favorite volume was the letter 'C' - cats and clothes. I would spend hours looking  at the illustrations and later, reading their captions. I was also treated to a "Book of the Month" club. I loved getting new books in the mail and couldn't wait to read them with my parents each month. My parents were always great reading examples even though neither of them had completed high school. My dad subscribed to three different newspapers and would read each of them from cover to cover. It is from  my family that I learned the importance of reading. I hope to share my love and enjoyment of reading with my students. I hope you will, too!
