Each employer has a common law duty of care to their employees while at work and to others who visit the employer's premises. This duty of care is also set out in E.U. directives and Irish law and statutory instruments. One of the primary roles of the Health and Safety Authority is to ensure compliance with the legislation by employers and self-employed. The H.S.A. also publishes an extensive range of health and safety publications; all are available on their website, www.hsa.ie, free of charge.
