1st Grade Spanish

Note to Parents:

Your kids are so fun and excited to learn. I miss their sparkling eyes and our interaction! We have only had 11 total hours of Spanish since September, but your kids are able to hear and do the words, answer in short phrases, and act out silly teacher-narrated skits.

I will post one lesson per week on Wednesdays, before 9:00 am. Each mini-lesson will include maybe a short devotion or a song, a specific category of vocabulary, questions your child can answer, and an action point.

Please take advantage of this unique opportunity to help your student acquire the vocabulary basic to the NCA 1st-6th grade Spanish program. (Spanish is an elective for 7-8th). Repetition is key to acquisition. It will boost their self-confidence and turbo-charge our second grade Spanish classes in the fall.

I am available T-F to answer any questions you may have: jhale@nca.school

Lesson 7- Descriptions/Riddles

In this lesson we play with hats and practice hearing descriptions some more. At the end there's a riddle quiz to test your guesswork! You've got what it takes! Write down the number of each hat I describe in the order I describe them and send me an email to check your accuracy.

Lesson 6- Animals

This is a lesson about animals and what they say. After you watch it, gather your stuffed animals, or real ones, your dolls or action figures, and pretend you are the mom or the dad asking the question: Qué dice el _______________? (Put the name of the animal or person in the blank.) Then send me a video of you so I can laugh too!

Lesson 5- People and Places

Join me in playing with people and place words. Then, draw a cartoon for this caption: La profesora come muchas sardinas en la escuela. (You might add what the boys and girls say to that!)

Sing the opposites with me and see if you can answer some riddles. Then play "The Teacher and the Student" and teach the song and its meanings to someone at your house! It's a scientific fact that you remember 95% of what you teach others!

Black is negro, turquoise turquesa, and we're done! Es el fin!

Click on the Quizlet games below to practice the vocabulary we've been working with since September. Note: my first graders are not reading or writing in the target language yet. That will be introduced in second grade.

"Flash" and "Match" are options for first graders. (You may try some of the others if you'd like, especially if you and your family already speak Spanish):

Tuesday, April 7th- Takeover Challenge

Hola clase! This is one of the first videos I've ever made. I decided I'd quit being camera shy and do something new because I miss you and want to stay connected. I long to see your faces again!
