Stick to a routine.
--It can be easy for your child to slip into counterproductive habits when you don’t have the structure of the school day. To stay on target, wake your child an hour before your school day begins. Take a shower, get dressed, and eat breakfast before you logon so that your child can start their school day feeling energized and ready to learn.
2. Create a designated study space
--Find a place where your child can work comfortably without distractions.
-- Have supplies, snacks, and water easily accessible.
-- Test out your internet connection and applications before next Tuesday to make sure everything is working smoothly. If it’s not, get help immediately!
3. Stay connected to your teachers
--Your teachers, counselors, and administrators are still available to you and your child during the school day. If you have any questions or concerns, email someone right away. We are here to help!
4. Turn in your work
--It will be easier for your child to complete assignments and turn them in each day. If you miss a day or an assignment, turn them in the next day.
5. Take care of yourself
--Maintaining your and your child's physical and mental health is an important part of being successful as an online learner. Make sure your child is getting enough sleep, moving their body, staying hydrated, and eating a balanced diet.
--Home based learning can be lonely for your family, so make sure to connect with other families. It is still important to stay connected to friends and family, even if you can’t see each other in person.
1. Asking questions: Creativity is all about questioning: How can I? Why should it? What would happen if? How can I make this, or how can I change this? It’s about making sure that children are always being asked those questions.
2. Keeping everything: Do not chuck anything away. Keep a bag with all the egg boxes and toilet rolls in a corner, because that’s going to be a mine of incredible craft-making materials.
3. Setting challenges: What kind of musical instruments can you make today from what’s in the bags over there?
4. Giving them time: The beauty is that the parents are in control of the time, for once. So you can give your child two hours to get on with a wonderful creative task, and they wouldn’t have that in school.
5. Finding online resources: Use sharing resources like Twinkl, BBC Bitesize. And then there are the entrepreneurs, like Joe Wicks doing kids’ exercise classes. There are also artists and designers sharing resources.
6. Being creative with space: Think about the space in your house. What can you change, what room could be theirs? What space is not utilized? What can you get rid of to make them a work area or for their equipment? That’s a very easy thing to fix.
7. Thinking outside the paintbox: Creativity is not just about arts and crafts, it’s also about the kitchen. What kind of lunch can they make for you while you’re working?
