Drama

Thursday, June 11th

I can't believe this is the last Drama post of the year! I want you to know how much I enjoyed having each of you in Drama class this year, and how much I've missed you since March. I hope and pray live theatre and Drama classes are just around the corner. For now, have a great summer!!

For this last post, I found a great video by the Actors' Academy called 'how to practice your acting skills from home during the quarantine.' With theatre productions and auditions shut down all over the world, it's a great time to work on your skills! I especially like the first tip - watch great acting. The video suggests starting with Oscar nominated movies to find some very good acting. Who isn't watching a few more movies than usual these days? Settle in with some popcorn, keep a list of your favorite performances, and think about what it was about those actors that made their performances so great. Start the video at about the 3:45 mark, if you want to skip a rather lengthy introduction. Enjoy!!!

Wednesday, June 10th

I found this great video called "Actors on Acting (Advice)." It's about 10 minutes of some very well known actors that you will recognize sharing advice on the job of acting. They also talk about why they love being actors so much and what they feel their fundamental job is. You really get a sense of their passion and excitement for acting. Enjoy!

This clip is from their performance on the TONY Awards, the annual awards show that celebrates Broadway theatre.

Friday, May 15th - Mary Poppins Color Pages

Anyone finding that coloring is pretty relaxing during quarantine? I am! I am a bit obsessed with my extensive colored pencil and marker collection. I can only do so many puzzles and bake so many cookies. The links below combine coloring relaxation with one of the coolest musicals ever, Mary Poppins! I hope you color with happy thoughts while you're humming that beautiful music!

May 8th - Tongue Twisters

Tongue twisters are essential vocal warm ups for actors, singers, and public speakers. Before doing a monologue, a scene, reciting a speech, singing a song, or just doing an improv, they help get your voice ready to go! Actually, they're good for everyone! The idea is to say the tongue twister as clearly as you can, then as clearly and quickly as you can. Below, you'll find a list of some common tongue twisters. You've probably heard and said some of them before. After reading the list, can you create a new tongue twister? Email your new tongue twisters to me and we'll use them in class and warm ups next year. :)

SHAKESPEARE'S WORDS - Friday, April 24th

The famous playwright William Shakespeare INVENTED over 1,700 words! In all of his work, Shakespeare uses 17,677 words. Writers often invent words, either by creating new forms of existing words or making up new words outright, because they are unable to find the exact words they require in the existing language. Shakespeare was by far the most important individual influence on the development of the modern English that we speak today.

Look at the list below of words that Shakespeare invented, and ask yourself if you can get through a day without needing to use at least one of them? What is your favorite word on this list?

Your challenge: INVENT your own word, create a definition for it, and use it in a sentence.

Email your answers to me at tlemcio@nca.school or tlemcio@ncalive.org. Maybe your new words will catch on in our language (or at least in our Drama classes)! I'll post them next week (anonymously, of course).

Hey Drama people! Ready for some Lion King nostalgia? I found this short video of the opening of the Broadway Lion King (Circle of Life). It's a 360 degree view, so it feels like you're onstage. It's pretty fun! Check out the video below. If you were in The Lion King last year (or saw it), email me some of your favorite memories!

Wed April 15th

Happy Wednesday Drama students! I've provided a link to a really cool theatre terms word search. It has terms used in theatre which also have common meanings in everyday life. It's a good review to keep up our theatre terms skills, and also to check out the alternate (often funny) meanings. It provides the word search, definitions, and also the answer key to the word search. Plus, word searches are really good for our brains! It's best if you have the option to print a hard copy, but also easy to just visually complete.

Enjoy!!
