Volleyball/volleying
November-December
Overview:
The students in class will engage in a variety of activities related to volleyball. Grades 1-2 work primarily at lower nets where they are introduced to the forearm pass/bump and learn how to hit the ball over their heads (overhead set). In grades 3-4, the students use higher nets and practice all elements of volleyball. Each student works in a small group setting and practices their skills in both predictable and unpredictable activities. At the end of their unit, third and 4th graders attempt to utilize their skills in a game where they have several different options to hit the ball back of the net. The students in kindergarten practice volleying playground balls over a line and a net hitting the ball on a bounce.
