Basketball
The students will be engaged in a variety of activities and games that develops their skill and ability levels. There will be an emphasis placed on the technique of executing a proper pass, shooting correctly, and dribbling. A combination of group games and small sided games will be used to practice their newly learned skills in a game-like atmosphere. The students in grades K-1 will pay particular attention to dribbling, passing, and an introduction to shooting. These students will travel in different pathways, at different levels, and use strategies to improve their skill set. The older students will develop team strategies and try to use their skills in small sided games of either a 2 vs 2 or 3 vs 3. There are multiple hoops to shoot at all varying in height to accommodate every players ability level.
1. identify which part of the hand is used to dribble a basketball.
2. Describe a few important cues when dribbling a basketball.
3. Explain the importance of being able to use both hands when dribbling and playing basketball.
4. Explain where basketball was invented.
5. Demonstrate the ability to perform a bounce pass and a chest pass while moving and stationary.
6. Describe in what situations would you use a bounce pass and a chest pass.
7. Explain the BEEF principle as it applies to shooting.
8. Practice a pick and roll (3rd and 4th grade) as a strategy to get open while exploring a v-cut, c- cut etc.
9. Demonstrate player to player defense and the importance of keeping their hands up.
10. Explain different violations in basketball i.e. double dribble, traveling, charging, blocking etc.
11. learn how to self-officiate their games (4th grade)
12. Explain how shooting angles can hinder or improve their accuracy.
