Nar-Anon SoCal / El sur de California

Bakersfield 15, 16, 17 February / Febrero 2019

The multi-regional convention in Bakersfield began on Friday February 15th with an information table and an open share meeting followed by dinner and fellowship.

The speaker meetings on Saturday ran from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Members were present from Northern California, Central California, Southern California, Arizona, and Nevada. The sessions were focused on the Nar-Anon Traditions and mixed speakers with workshops. One result was an extensive participatory review of sections of the Nar-Anon Traditions Booklet.

Following the speaker session, many of us went to dinner at a local restaurant, then hurried back for the Saturday multi-regional business meeting. The business meeting is informal. However, those assembled recommend that the following ideas be explored by each region.

Expand this event by also inviting the Arizona, Baja, Pacific Northwest, and Rocky Mountain Regions.
Work towards a long term goal to split this event away from this NA Convention into a stand-alone event that can rotate around the western regions.
Rename the event from the “multi-regional convention” to the “Western Regional Convention of Nar-Anon Family Groups.”

Most members left early on Sunday to try to get home before the storms. A few stuck around for breakfasts at various locations. A few participated in a Step Study workshop in the afternoon.

It was a great event, and we already have an invitation to return next year.
