Service Opportunities - January 2019

We need your help. The Southern California Region (SCR) of Nar-Anon Family Groups (NFG) held our quarterly regional assembly on Saturday January 12th 2019 in Torrance, CA. We have several vacancies in our regional service and we need your help. Please convey the following news to your groups. The SCR is searching for an Alternate Secretary to replace the Secretary if the Secretary cannot attend. The duties of the Secretary include:

  • Attend monthly phone call meeting with other regional officers.
  • Prepare minutes from the monthly phone calls and distribute those minutes within 2 weeks from the meeting.
  • Attend quarterly regional assemblies with the regional officers and group service representatives.
  • Prepare minutes from the quarterly regional assembly and send those minutes to the Regional Chair within 2 weeks from the meeting.
  • Represent the SCR in communication with banks and others as an officer of our non-profit organization.
  • Assist in the preparation and distribution of emails to the members.

The SCR is searching for a Narathon Co-Chair to work with the Regional Vice-Chair to coordinate the annual Narathon. The 2019 Narathon will be in Yorba Linda in September. The duties of the Narathon Co-Chair include:

  • Attend monthly phone call meeting with other regional officers.
  • Attend quarterly regional assemblies with the regional officers and group service representatives.
  • Oversees the Narathon committee decision on a topic and theme for the event.
  • Assists in securing the venue.
  • Oversees all sub-committee groups.
  • Sets up one-on-one meetings with sub-committee leaders to confirm progress.
  • Ultimately responsible for the successful execution of the event.

The SCR is searching for a new Regional Delegate. The Regional Delegate duties include:

  • Attend monthly phone call meeting with other regional officers.
  • Attend quarterly regional assemblies with the regional officers and group service representatives.
  • Work with the Alternate Delegate so that the Alternate Delegate can serve as the Delegate if the need should arise.
  • Help groups learn about the motions for the 2020 World Service Conference once those motions are made available to us for review.
  • Collect and tabulate votes from the groups in the SCR.
  • Attend a week long World Service Conference (WSC) in April 2020 in Torrance, CA. The conference typically starts on Thursday and runs through to the following Tuesday. Delegates are assigned rooms in the hotel so they can start early, work late, and have time to meet other members from all over the world. All expenses for the conference are paid for by the region.
  • At the WSC:
    • Vote as recommended by the votes from the groups in the SCR
    • Work with the other delegates to make corrections and adjustments to the motions and literature.
    • Seek guidance from Higher Power and others at the WSC.
    • Vote your conscience to strive for the best interests of the Nar-Anon fellowship.
  • Report to the region and groups on the results from the WSC.

We also need more members on all of our Service Committees. Most of our service committees meet monthly via telephone calls. The schedule for the meetings is found on the Calendar page of our service website. Member duties include:

  • Show up on the phone call.
  • Assist the committee in making wise decisions that are in the best interest of the Nar-Anon fellowship.
  • Support our primary purpose by carrying the message of recovery to those still suffering.
