• Class: short acting - sedation - benzodiazepine, anticonvulsant

• Action: inhibits brain neurotransmitters leading to a calming effect, relaxes skeletal muscles and at high doses induces sleep

• Indications: Seizures 

• Adverse Effects: hypotension 

• Contraindications: hypersensitivity to midazolam, alcohol intoxication, coma, shock

• Special Considerations: Pregnancy category D

Dosages:

Adults: 

Active Seizures - 

> more than 50kg  

• IM 10mg

• IV 2-5mg

< less than 50kg 

• IM 0.2mg/kg

• IV 0.2mg/kg

Pediatrics:

Active Seizures - q 2min (MAX 5mg) 

• IM 0.2mg/kg

• IV 0.2mg/kg
