• Class: Synthetic adrenocortical steroid

• Action: Suppresses antigen and inflammatory response, inhibits inflammatory response mediators such as cytokines, interleukins, and prostaglandins

• Indications: Allergic reactions, anaphylaxis with wheezing, respiratory distress  

• Adverse Effects: CNS Depression, increased ICP, headache, light headedness seizures, syncope, vertigo, arrhythmias, bradycardia.

• Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to dexamethasone

• Special Considerations: Pregnancy Category C

Dosages:

Adults: 

IV 8mg or 2ml

Pediatrics:

IV 0.6 mg/kg for MAX dose of 8mg or roughly 13kg/29lbs

IM 0.6 mg/kg for MAX dose of 8mg or roughly 13kg/29lbs
