• Class: Antiarrhythmic

• Action: Slows the conduction of electrical impulses at the AV node.

• Indications: PSVT, SVT, may consider for wide-complex tachycardia if rhythm is regular

• Adverse Effects: Sense of impeding doom. flushing, and Asystole.

• Contraindications: All dysrhythmia possibilities (sick sinus syndrome); Heart blocks.

• Special Considerations: Pregnancy Class C - when given patients may express chest pain, SOB, or Impending doom

Dosages:

Adults:

• IV 6mg RAPID push followed by a 10cc Saline Flush

  • 12mg for a 2nd dose

• IO 6mg RAPID push followed by a 10cc Saline Flush

  • 12mg for a 2nd dose

Pediatrics:

• 0.1mg/kg to MAX dose of 6mg for 1st dose

• 0.2mg/kg to MAX of 12mg for 2nd dose
