Class: Antiarrhythmic Class 1B
Action: Blocks sodium channels, increasing the recovery period after repolarization; suppresses automaticity in the His-Purkinje system and depolarization in the ventricles.
Indications: Ventricular arrhythmias, Cardiac arrest from V-Fib, V-tach, and Torsades de Pointes
Adverse Effects: Toxicity, seizures, cardiac arrhythmias, hypotension, cardiac arrest
Contraindications: AV Blocks, DO NOT USE, Adams-Stokes syndrome, Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome (delta wave)
Special Considerations: Pregnancy Class B
Dosages:
Adults:
Cardiac arrest V-fib/V-tach = 1-1.5mg/kg to a MAX of 3mg/kg
Second dose at 0.5-0.75mg/kg
Perfusing VT 0.5-0.75mg/kg IV
Pediatrics:
1mg/kg to MAX dose of 100mg
