Class: Electrolyte, mineral, anti-inflammatory
Action: Required for normal physiologic functioning. Magnesium is a cofactor in neurochemical transmission and muscular excitability.
Indications: Torsades de pointes, cardiac arrhythmias associated with hypomagnesaemia eclampsia and seizure prophylaxis in pre-eclampsia and status asthmaticus.
Adverse Effects: Toxicity may cause muscle paralysis, weakness, hypothermia, cardiac, respiratory or CNS depression
Contraindications: AV Blocks, GI obstruction, renal impairment

Dosages:
Adults:
Cardiac arrest (V-fib/V-tach/Torsades) 1-2g in 10ml D5W IV/IO over 5-10 mins
Torsades WITH a pulse: 1-2g in 100ml D5W IV/IO over 5-60 mins
Eclampsia 2-4g IV/IM
Status Asthmaticus 1.2-2g slow IV/IO over 20 mins.
Pediatrics:
20-50mg/kg to MAX dose of 2g for pulseless V-Tach/Torsades and status asthmaticus.
