Starting with the Class of 2025, a 1/2 credit course in Financial Literacy is needed and will count as part of the 4 electives to meet graduation requirements.
Additionally, all students must receive instruction in CPR and the use of an automated external defibrillator from an approved source during Grades 9-12, unless the student is exempted from such training due to disability or by written request of the parent. This training is included in the required Health course for all students.
Demonstrate Competency: Students must demonstrate competency in math and English by earning a minimum score of 684 on the state’s algebra I and English II tests.
Competency Alternatives: Students who have taken required tests more than once without earning a competency score and have received remedial supports are able to show competency through one of the alternative options below:
College-Credit Plus: Earn credit for one non-remedial math and/or one non-remedial English course through College Credit Plus (for the subject area not passed);
Career Experience and Technical Skill: Demonstrate career readiness and technical skill through two demonstrations to show competency - at least one must be a foundational option;
Foundational:
Earn a score of proficient or higher on three or more WebXams in a single career pathway; or
Earn a 12-point approved industry-recognized credential or group of credentials totaling 12 points in a single career field; or
Complete a pre-apprenticeship in the student’s chosen career field or, for students ages 18 and older, show evidence of acceptance into an apprenticeship program after high school.
Supporting:
Complete a 250-hour work-based learning experience with evidence of positive evaluations; or
Earn the workforce readiness score on WorkKeys; or
Earn the OhioMeansJobs-Readiness Seal.
3. Military Readiness: Enter into a contract to enlist in the military upon graduation.
Students will demonstrate readiness for their post-high school paths by earning two diploma seals.
Each student is required to earn two diploma seals, choosing those that line up with their goals and interests. These seals give students the chance to demonstrate academic, technical and professional skills and knowledge that align to their passions, interests and planned next steps after high school. At least one of the two must be an Ohio Defined Diploma Seal.
