SMCCCD is committed to engaging its students, faculty, and staff on environmental awareness and sustainability initiatives. Sustainability is communicated through various District-wide and campus channels.
1) Facilitate participation in campus sustainability efforts and awareness of sustainability issues
Equity is a main priority when engaging with our campus community. Any outreach or engagement involves working with as many student organizations and campus departments as possible to ensure we reach a wide range of students.
Through our programs, we also customize engagement opportunities for each student to accommodate a wide range of needs and schedules to make sure everyone can get involved, and that all student voices and stories are elevated.
SMCCCD is proud to be working with Peninsula Clean Energy, the local electricity provider for San Mateo County, as a funder of the Sustainability Discovery Hub! Ten student assistants have been designing and fabricating interactive, clean energy-focused exhibits to educate our community. These exhibits will be based on the Museum of Tomorrow model, which has been proven to increase commitment to sustainable behavioral change.
To promote interdisciplinary collaboration, the District has its own sustainability committee made up of faculty, staff, and students interested in making a difference.
