This page details the SMCCCD Sustainability Team's current projects, updated on a quarterly basis.
The Susty Team hosted our annual Earth Fest celebrations across all three campuses for the first time this past April, drawing approximately 500 attendees. Students, staff, and faculty engaged with local organizations, picked up free native plants, and learned about proper waste sorting from the Zero Waste Ambassadors. The star of the show was the debut of two new Museum of Tomorrow exhibits—SIM Mateo and Electra House—which educated visitors on clean energy and appliance electrification. A big thank you to Peninsula Clean Energy for supporting Earth Fest and making these exhibits possible!
Over 25 students participated in SMCCCD's inaugural cohort of the Zero Waste Ambassadors! They took on a variety of projects including an inventory of bins on campus, helping their classmates sort waste in the dining halls, and leading a waste sorting game at Earth Fest!
Stayed tuned for fall recruitment updates!
To help us reach our goal of becoming a Zero Waste District, the Susty team updated the waste signage at the bins in the dining halls! It's easier than ever to sort properly with our new display cases showcasing real items served in our cafeterias.
