Getting Started with the Green Office Program

Who can participate? Staff, faculty, administrators, District employees and anyone affiliated with SMCCCD.

What do you need? A physical office/cubicle space on a SMCCCD campus.

Easy Steps to Participate:

Step 1: Register to the green office program by filling out the form below or here

Step 2: Download the Task Checklist (see below) and select green office tasks to complete from each category; People, Energy, and Waste

Step 3: Once you have completed your tasks, send back the completed Task Checklist along with photo verification to sustainability@my.smccd.edu.

Am I able to participate in the Green Office Program?

There is one requirement to be eligible to participate in the green office program:

  1. Be a faculty, staff, administration, intern or other affiliated member of SMCCCD


How do I sign up?

If you meet the program requirements, use this form to register for the Green Office program.


How do I decide which tasks to choose in each category?

Identify the tasks on the checklist that you would like to complete. Challenge yourself! Choose tasks you aren't already doing.


If I already regularly practice a task I see in the categories, do I still get credit for it?

Yes... but challenge yourself by going beyond your usual routine to reduce your campus carbon footprint!


Ok, I've finished all my tasks in each category. What now?

Submit your checklist marked with the tasks that you completed. You can do this with the link under "Checklist Submission" or by emailing sustainability@my.smccd.edu directly. Make sure to include photos of your tasks in your upload. After verification, your certification will be sent to you!


How soon will I receive my certification after I submit?

The verification process can take anywhere from 1-2 weeks. Hang tight, and you'll have your official Green Office Program Certificate proudly displayed on your office walls soon!


How can I learn more about each green office task?

Click on the Resource button under "Getting Started with the Green Office Program". This Google Drive has compiled information that will aid you in accomplishing your tasks. This sustainability website also has a wealth of resources, whether you want to brush up on your waste sorting knowledge or request a CAALL audit be done in your class. If you'd like to speak with someone, contact the Sustainability Team's email directly for assistance!


I've enrolled in the Green Office Program and received my certification. What else can I do to be more sustainable on campus?

Great question! If you were interested in participating in keeping up with the sustainability news around the district, please subscribe to the District Sustainability Newsletter that will be coming out. To find other like-minded faculty and staff, look for the campus-specific sustainability groups like the Sustainability Ambassadors (Skyline) and attend events sponsored by the Sustainability Team like the district-wide Earth Day.
