Mrs. Wright Partnered with with CGCC to offer step-by-step STEM lessons to her 5th & 6th grade media technology classes. The lessons introduced students to the free and user friendly Tinkercad software to design and print 3D models.
CGCC students met with 5th & 6th grade students virtually via WebEx. The CGCC students introduced the Tinkercad software and modeled lessons for the Gateway students. Week one lesson allowed the students to explore and maneuver the 3D shapes. The Lenovo touch screen devices came in handy when manipulating the 3D objects on the screen.
Week 2 was all about exploring the Tinkercad software. The CGCC students recorded a lesson for students to follow along showing them the different possibilities in creating their own 3D designs.
Gateway students followed along with a recorded lesson by CGCC students that showed our 5th & 6th graders how to create a 3D house.
(Recorded lesson by the CGCC students for building a 3D house in Tinkercad)
CGCC students recorded a lesson showing the 5th and 6th graders how they can fine tune their 3D house. Since the Tinkercad software is free, it allowed some students, who are interested in furthering their creativity, to create a personal Tinkercad account (with parent permission). One student went further on his own account to create 3D circuits.
The plan for lesson 5, which hasn't happened yet, is to dive deeper into Tinkercad and work on the more difficult challenges.
We love our partnership!
Thank you CGCC!
