Students used the organizer in the Black History Month Project Research Essay Report PDF (seen below) to collect their research information from these online sources for their informational writing essay. https://kids.nationalgeographic.com/history/topic/african-american-heroes and https://www.ducksters.com/biography/africanamericans.php
Next, the students used images from the African Americans Research Project PDF to hang alongside their essays as a visual.
Students then began creating their Sways.
Students were required to have 6 image cards in their presentations.
Card 1: Name, the years they were alive, and a photo
Card 2: What the person was known for and a photo
Card 3: Early life fact and a photo
Card 4: Fact and a photo
Card 5: Fact and a photo
Card 6: Fact and a photo
(For the fact and photo cards, students used information that they included in their essays.)
One of Mrs. Ignacio's students created this Sway:
Each student presented to three peers in a gallery-style format, rotating around the room in three-minute increments. Each peer listened and watched the Sway presentation and then provided feedback. Students also did a self-evaluation and reflected on their own project performance (see PDF below).
