Employees should give as much advance notice as reasonably possible when requesting time off.
All advanced requests should be submitted in Frontline or, if the employee is unable to access Frontline, on a Staff Absence Request form.
When taking a full day absence, leave will be adjusted by a full day (not just the amount of time a substitute was needed).
Leave balances can be found in Employee Self Service, accessed through My.Delaware.gov.
Sick time may be used when you must be absent from work due to personal illness or the illness of a spouse, child, or parent.
12-month employees shall earn 12 days of sick leave per year (96 hours).
10-month full-time employees shall earn 10 days of sick leave per year (80 hours).
A maximum of Five days per school year of available sick time may be taken as Personal Days.
It is important to keep track of personal days used in Employee Self-Service. If an employee exceeds the maximum number of personal days in a given school year, pay will be docked.
Sick days are front-loaded at the beginning of the fiscal year and roll over if unused.
Sick time, including personal time may be taken in ¼ hour increments.
If you are absent because of an illness for three (3) or more successive days, it is your responsibility to keep your supervisor informed daily and to provide medical verification when asked to do so.
If you will need to be out for more than a week, please speak with HR.
Earned unused sick leave may be available to transfer to another state agency.
Full-time twelve (12) month employees are permitted 10 paid vacation days (81 hours) per year.
These days accrue 6.75 hours per month and may not be used until accrued.
After 12 months of employment, the accrual will increase to 7.5 hours per month.
After 24 months of employment, the accrual will increase to 8 hours per month.
After 36 months of employment, the accrual will increase to 8.75 hours per month.
After 48 months of employment, the accrual will increase to 9.5 hours per month.
After 60 months of employment, the accrual will increase to 10 hours per month.
12 month employees may carry over up to a maximum of 30 days of vacation time. Vacation hours in excess of 240 will be dropped on July 1st.
12 month employees who resign or are terminated may receive payment for earned unused vacation time.
The following amount of leave may be requested to make arrangements for and attend funeral services:
Up to (5) working days for the employee’s spouse, child, step-child, parent, step-parent, or parent-in-law.
Up to (3) working days for the employee’s grandparent, grandparent-in-law, grandchild, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, brother, sister, brother-in-law, sister-in-law.
Up to (1) working day for the employee’s near relative.
The first day requested to serve on a Jury will be a paid day off and not be counted against an employee’s sick leave.
Employees may use available sick time to cover jury duty after the first day.
Employees should immediately notify their supervisor if they receive notice to report for jury duty. Proof of serving on jury duty will be required.
Employees may use up to three sick leave days per year to observe religious holidays
Employees are eligible for Parental Leave after 1 year of employment in a benefit eligible position.
An eligible employee shall be entitled to 12 weeks of paid parental leave upon the birth of a child or upon adoption of a child who is 6 years old or younger.
Paid parental leave shall expire at the end of the 12-month period beginning on the date immediately following the birth or adoption.
Parental leave may be used in one continuous period of time (12 calendar weeks).
Subject to approval by the School, an employee may request parental leave in two (2) week or longer increments, provided that the entire parental leave entitlement (maximum 12 weeks) is used within eighteen (18) weeks of the start of the parental leave.
Employees eligible for paid parental leave cannot use accumulated sick leave to extend paid parental leave.
The use of paid parental leave shall run concurrently with FMLA leave and Short Term Disability (if applicable).

Full-time employees are eligible to donate and receive donated leave.
The participant shall have been employed by MOT Charter School for at least six months before that employee is eligible to donate or receive donated leave.
The recipient shall have used all their available sick and annual leave, where applicable.
The recipient shall have a catastrophic illness or have a family member diagnosed with a catastrophic illness.
Catastrophic illness is defined as any illness or injury which is diagnosed by a physician and certified by the physician as rendering the employee, or the employee’s family member, unable to work for a period greater than five (5) calendar weeks.
Recipients may not receive more than 240 hours (6 weeks) within a contractual year.
Donated leave must be in increments of whole days.
Donated leave must be converted into cash value at the donor’s rate of pay and be used at the recipient’s rate of pay.
Donated leave must be used in the same contractual year in which it was received.
