Sarah Hawkes is a global health academic and advocate/activist. With a multidisciplinary training in sociology, medicine and a PhD in epidemiology, her work sits at the interface of research and advocacy for social policy and health policy in pursuit of social justice and fairness. Sarah is currently establishing a new Department of Global Population Health at Monash University Malaysia, and has worked in a variety of research-focused organisations, including the icddr,b (Bangladesh), Population Council (India), and academic institutions, including the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and University College London. Sarah is co-Chair of the Lancet Commission on Gender and Global Health, a UK-Government-appointed Commissioner for the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission and alongside Professor Kent Buse, she is co-founder and co-CEO of G5050 (Global 50/50 - https://global5050.org/), which advances action and accountability for gender equality in the health, law and finance sectors.
