Born in Barcelona, Spain, Jose M Valderas is Professor of Medicine at the National University of Singapore (NUS), where he serves as Director of the Centre for Research in Health Systems Performance and Head of the Department of Family Medicine at the National University Health System. With a strong commitment to research that informs clinical practice and health policy, his work focuses on improving health system performance through patient-reported information. He has held academic positions at the Universities of Oxford and Manchester, among others and his extensive research portfolio includes over 400 scientific publications and leadership in more than 100 projects. He provides expert guidance to global institutions, including WHO, WONCA, Wellcome and Lancet Commissions. The founding Field Chief Editor of Frontiers in Health Services, his work continues to bridge research, policy, and practice to address social determinants of health and reduce disparities in community health outcomes, in particular through an ongoing collaboration co-led by the National University of Singapore and the World Economic Forum on digital transformation for health equity through place-based change in South East Asia.
