Open Day at Monash gives prospective students and their families the ability to find key course information, explore our campuses, meet current students and staff, and get a taste of what Monash has to offer. Being an Open Day Ambassador at Monash Residential Services (MRS) gives current residents an opportunity to answer key questions about living on campus and the benefits they have experienced as part of their residential life.

Open Day Ambassadors are nominated by their Residential Life Coordinator. There will be some preparation required prior to the event and your Residential Life Staff (RLS) will support you throughout. Participation may involve a Half or Full day commitment on Open Day. Ambassadors will assist in guiding tours around their residence, answering questions about on campus accommodation as well speaking generally about university life and their own courses.
Resident volunteers are expected to:
Give visitors and potential students a positive outlook about life on res
Be available and willing to follow directions during their rostered session
To not interfere with other halls or students who are fulfilling a MRS Ambassador
To portray all aspects of MRS in a positive light (including Halls Café, Admissions, Operations, RLS and RST)
To give a complete and honest appraisal of life at MRS
Should have knowledge of the different accommodation types and MRS ventures (i.e. Alcohol Procedure, new buildings as applicable)
Should be approachable and dressed appropriately for the role in hall merchandise (i.e. no pajama pants, ugg boots)
Act within and be able to explain if asked MRS Conditions of Residency, if unsure answer must be able to enquire with RLS
For residents volunteering bedrooms:
Rooms must be clean and tidy (including vacuuming) and all supplied furniture in good conditions
Any offensive or inappropriate items (posters, alcohol and etc.) should not be on view
No items are to be hung off fire/sprinkler systems
Please store valuables in a safe place
Being an Open Day Volunteer has a number of benefits such as:

By volunteering as an Open Day Ambassador, you may have the opportunity to develop the following employability skills that can become a valuable asset to your resume:
Expert listening and response skills, particularly in response to queries or in conversations
Ability to engage with others in a professional manner
Ability to clearly communicate with a wide range of people and recognizing community diversity
All nominated Open Day Ambassador volunteers must:
Be a current resident with Monash Residential Services.
Hold a valid and current Victorian Working With Children Card.
Follow all MRS Regulations and Policies including the Conditions of Residency (CoR), Social Media Guidelines and Alcohol Policy.
Operate at the discretion of the Residential Life coordinators.
Be mindful – for many this is their first visit to Monash so they're often not prepared for the scale of the campuses, course offering and the crowds.

The recruitment of Open Day Ambassadors takes place in halls.
In July each year, the Residential Life Staff (RLS) will invite residents who are keen to volunteer for Open Day to submit an expression of interest. See your RLS for more details.
All Open Day Ambassadors must have a valid Working with Children Check (WWCC).
