One of the most valuable aspects of living on campus at Monash University is the opportunity to develop as a person and grow your skills, beyond the traditional learning environment.
At Monash Residential Services (MRS) you have access to a number of volunteer leadership and development opportunities, and we encourage you to get involved!
Social Events Team
"During my experience as an RA, I was able to practice and develop a wide range of professional skills in a fun and fulfilling environment. Skills such as leadership, confidence, conflict resolution and event management which weren't explicitly taught in my degrees have been incredibly helpful in furthering my career as they are easily translatable. Since I was applying these skills within my hall community it soon became second nature, and I was able to make a real positive impact on my fellow residents' lives which was a really rewarding experience"
Cody Fryar, past Resident Advisor
Volunteering allows you to make a real and lasting change in your community. By deciding to volunteer you demonstrate that you are motivated and capable of inspiring others. In return for your time, you will enhance job readiness, learn from people with diverse backgrounds, ages and cultures and make lasting friends. You'll also have the opportunity to develop sound leadership experience and gain the advantage of a professional support network. Most of the roles available will receive a range of formal and informal training opportunities as well as hands-on experience.
Look for the Employability Skills section under each role describing the experience you may gain to contribute to your resume. These skills can be recorded via the Student Futures online tool.
