When will I receive a notification about the outcome of my application?Central RA Interviews occur in week 6
Residential RA interviews occur in weeks 7 to 9
Notification of interview outcome takes place by mid-semester break.
When you write your 300-500 word application statement, carefully consider the role profiles.
Applicants who submit thoughtful, detailed, and passionate applications will be the most likely to receive an offer for an interview. A strong application will demonstrate your personality, interests, leadership and involvement on campus. You are encouraged to include all experiences that are of transferable value to the role. You can use examples that indicate your skills or knowledge, and link your responses to how you will contribute to and improve the MRS community, should you be successful in obtaining the RA role.
Additional resources can be found here.
Why do I need to submit an application for on-campus accommodation?Submitting an RA application does not replace the need to apply for accommodation. To live on campus next year, apply for accommodation as soon as applications open at 9am on 1 September 2025. You must apply as soon as applications open, as there is a high volume of applicants competing for a place on campus.
What is the difference between a Residential RA and a Central RA?Residential RAs support the specific residence/hall in which they live. The 'In-Hall’ RAs will typically hold one or two portfolios and may be assigned to assist with central events and initiatives organised by the central RAs. For example, if I am a Residential RA living in Howitt Hall, and I support my fellow Howitt Hall residents. I also hold an Environment & Sustainability portfolio and help the central RAs and other RAs with this portfolio.
Central RAs facilitate events, initiatives, and programs for the entire MRS community for specific portfolios. For example, if I am a Central Gender Equality RA, I help organise gender equity initiatives for all residents at MRS.
Can I hold both a residential RA scholarship and a Central RA scholarship?Yes! The Central RAs receive a half-scholarship and will typically also hold a half-scholarship Residential RA role in their own hall.
When does the scholarship start?MRS pays RA scholarships monthly as rental rebates over 10 months (February to November), which are applicable only when in residence. For more details, visit the Scholarships site.
What if I have already completed Food Safety training - do I need to complete DoFoodSafely? If you've already completed the SITXFSA005 – Use Hygienic Practices for Food Safety course, great job! That means you don’t need to do the DoFoodSafely training.
I am a returning RA. Do I need to retake the training?
Yes, the content is periodically refreshed, and a number of the online training programs have expiry dates. Please refer to the training tips below for more information.
If you have completed the training before:
Some training sessions require annual refreshers, especially for Returning RAs. Please note the following:
RA Induction is mandatory every year, regardless of past attendance.
Your biography must be updated annually.
We require you to DoFoodSafely annually as a refresher.
If your Data Protection, Equal Opportunity, or Ethics training will expire during your RA term, you must complete it again now.
If you completed any of these sessions in myDevelopment, but they appear as incomplete in your Resident Portal training record, you are required to retake the training.
How to re-complete the required training:
To re-complete, click on the training link and select “Request”. If you receive a pop-up message “you have already completed this training,” select ”Request” again to receive a new training completion date.
If you don't see the Request button, please email mrs.reslife@monash.edu
Have you completed training external to MRS?
If you complete any of the required training external to Monash Residential Services, e.g. LivingWorks Start or DoFoodSafely, please submit your certificate here.
