There are two types of tours: Public or Group Tours and Private Tours.
Public or Group Tours
For public or group tours, contact Visitor Engagement. Visits can be self-guided or guided tours which are led by VE staff and concentrate on building tours, museum history, and artist interventions.
Group Size: Usually for groups of 10 or more visitors. Maximum group size is 30 visitors, which would be divided into two groups.
Availability: Reservations are only available during business hours, beginning at 12:30pm Thursdays-Mondays. Last time offered is one hour before the museum closes
Special Exhibitions Requests: Curatorial team is contacted when there is a request for a specific exhibition tour.
After-Hours Requests: If there is a request for outside business hours it depends on who the request is coming from. Development and Curatorial will be contacted depending on whether the visitors need a different touch.
Private tour
Tour organizer fills out MoMA PS1 Tour Request Form
Notifications: Department representatives from Operations, Security, Production, Registration, and VE will receive the following email in their inbox once form is submitted. Representatives from Curatorial and Development will receive the email only if their department is requested.
Assessment Criteria: Viability of tour is assessed by audience, number of guests, time of day, entry and exit locations, requested galleries, and any other relevant considerations
Approvals: Each department representative must then approve or flag a tour on the Group Tour Request Form Responses within 48 hours of tour notice.
“Approve” if there is nothing to flag from the relevant department
“Flag” if there is something the tour organizer should be aware of that may present an issue. Please use the comment feature to note the flag, or reach out to tour organizer directly.
If tour is approved, tour organizer will take the following steps to confirm.
Calendar Hold: Tour is placed on PS1 Tour calendar (PS1tours@moma.org) by tour organizer and any relevant staff members are also included on the invite. Any relevant details are added into the body of the calendar invite. All relevant staff will be notified by receiving the calendar invite.
