Streetscape Plan
The Streetscape Plan focuses on showing the implementation of green-infrastructure and public transportation. Vegetated water retention pits will allow stormwater runoff to drain from the roads into the pits where riparian plants will help to filter the water before it is absorbed into the soil, while a designated bike lane and bus stop area will improve the overall circulation of this area, while also providing different modes of transportation for pedestrians to access Downtown Pittsburgh and surrounding areas.
The streetscape section is cut along Chestnut Street and focuses on detailing the different aspects of the green-infrastructure and public transportation in this area. Street tree pits that are used to collect and filter stormwater runoff from Chestnut Street, while the designated bike lane and bus stop area are used to increase the vehicular and pedestrian circulation in the area.
This perspective focuses on showing how pedestrians move throughout this area. The addition of more retail stores and restaurants will help attract more people to the site. Marked bike lane crossing and crosswalks will help to increase awareness of cyclist and pedestrians, while the designated bus lane allows for a safe space for public transit buses to load and unload passengers.
This diagram focuses on how stormwater will move throughout the site. Stormwater that is captured from building rooftops will be piped into an underground cistern that is designed to store the water until it can be used for irrigation or other purposes. Permeable pavement on both sidewalks and roads will allow for water to penetrate the surface and make its way into underground pipes that will transport the water to the storage cistern. Excess stormwater in the cistern will be re-circulated to the river.
